YES, YOU CAN!!

In the past few years (and particularly in the last week from President Obama as he steps down from that role), I am sure you will have heard that wonderful saying, “Yes, You Can” said with real gusto.

Well what I want to add is that whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right regardless!

So isn’t it better, therefore, to think “Yes, I can” and I’m making the decision that I’m going to go for it, or do whatever it is I’ve been putting off, procrastinating about, rather than the one of, ‘I can’t do ………… because

I’m not good enough

I’ll be laughed at

I’ll be shamed

I’ll be embarrassed

I won’t be liked

I like my comfort box

I don’t want to challenge myself

I don’t want to stand out from the crowd

I’d love you to tell yourself that you’ve had enough of all those voices telling you the reasons (those above and even more!!) why you can’t.

I am sure you already know the feelings of fear, doubt, anxiety, hopelessness or depression as not many of us have managed to escape them, and what they have done to you during your life up till now.

Well what I am saying to you is that, yes have the awareness of your own limitations AND don’t dwell on them.    None of us is perfect – we’ve all got areas we could change.

Simply acknowledge to yourself (or even to a trustworthy person) that you are afraid to try or do whatever AND you are willing to take a chance, or even another chance!    You then know you have a choice as you are acknowledging your truth and not hiding behind it.

When you make that decision to do whatever, you may get it wrong in your eyes, and you’ll learn from the daring to do.

These are some of my suggestions for today –

Have fun in life by stretching yourself in small or big ways

Know when to laugh at yourself and when to take yourself seriously

Don’t keep comparing yourself but compete against your best self

Be the best “you” that you can be – there’s nobody else like you

Remember, today be one of those breathing into, “Yes I can”.
