False Expectations Appearing Real, or
Fuck Everything And Run, or
Failure Expected And Received
Any of these ring a bell with you? Or you may have one of your own as I am sure you have experienced this, as I have, many times in your life!!
I am going to paraphrase something I read by the late Bernard Levin here, – ‘Many lead a life of quiet (and sometimes noisy) desperation, understanding nothing but the fact that there is a hole inside and however much food and drink you pour into it or material possessions you stuff it with, it aches!’
And that is why, I can safely say that you will have known FEAR in your life.
What happens is that, for most of us, we don’t speak about what is going on for us deep inside – too scary – let’s cover it up – forget it’s there – we are fine.
Story
You continue the story you have made your own, holding that there is no possibility that you can change this. You don’t know how, or truly want to, because you are afraid of how the new story could turn out.
There is fear that the new story gives you the courage to love and shine in a world that values being the same as everyone else, and even hiding yourself so you don’t do anything too big, too visible or move out of the box you’ve become comfortable in!
Expert
You are the expert on your life. And it’s about finding the support of someone who will enable you to free you to own this. This is the work that I do and that’s why I am sometimes called, ‘the spiritual midwife’. You will then be seen for who you are and be aligned with yourself. You can re-choose your story.
What about the words below for a possibility for you?
Freedom Enthusiasm Authentic Real
You choose your own while not missing out on having fun in your new story. Enjoy all your wonderful opportunities and experiences along the way.
Irene, the comment box isn’t big enough for my fears :D. And I tend to face them, except for spiders… those I tend to run from or do the spider dance.
I love the “expert of your own life”, you are so right there. Everyone else may have an opinion, but we’re the ones living it and doing what we have to do. I need to ponder that a little more.
Thanks for this – it’s always good to be reminded about the crippling affect fear can have if we let it.
As a firewalk facilitator it’s always a real privilege for me to see people step through their fear, and get the opportunity to redefine their F.E.A.R.
Thanks for your comments, Sarah. I know – it’s crazy what we can be afraid of as sometimes it makes no sense. And it takes a long while (for some if ever) to know we are the expert of our own life – again crazy. Enjoy your pondering xx
Thanks, Lottie, for commenting. Yes, it’s amazing what we can do with that support especially from you as a firewalk facilitator (done it twice by the way AND walking over glass – been around the block a few times!). I’m enjoying your work xx
“Spiritual midwife” is a great way to describe your job, Irene. Moving people from a place of fear to a place of freedom is like a rebirth.
Most enjoyable post 🙂
