You’ll probably know the definition of what insanity is – “To keep doing the same thing and expect different results”. Most of us don’t realise that this is what’s driving us to distraction, one way or another, and can cause us to be upset at how life is.
One way to play life differently is by not taking it so seriously. I’d like to suggest that you remember to keep your sense of humour and hold life as lightly as you can. Life is funny when you are able to step back and look at it – even if it is years afterwards. We, as human beings, do and say the funniest things and not always intentionally! As I said in last week’s blog, remember to smile – if only because it uses more muscles to do this. And also remember the saying “This too will pass”.
Another way is to get back in touch with our curiosity. This is something that keeps us young in mind and spirit – if not body. It’s that feeling you had when you were a child and were so curious about the world – exploring, touching, sensing, seeing, not knowing and checking it out. This feeling of curiosity can get lost as you grow up. And there’s another advantage of being curious, you can replace your concerns and fears with curiosity when facing a problem of some kind. You re-engage your openness to the fact that there is a solution to every problem.
Most of us usually try to force a solution by pushing and striving. You could try coming from that place of curiosity, openness and stillness and ask yourself, “I wonder what this is about?” And wait and see. This is another way than doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
