A friend asked me if I had a motivational phrase and I thought about that for a moment or two. The one that popped into my head first was ‘Onwards and Upwards’.
I can see different scenarios when I say it –
Someone (I guess me!) walking tall, at ease and with a sword that can be held high, used as a walking stick or to clear the way
OR
Me resting, taking time out, brushing myself down and then walking on even if I’m crying or laughing, bewildered or focussed
What I am saying here is that, even with all of life’s trials and tribulations happenings, we can still move on when we are ready, and in our own way.
Life is happening regardless with us or without us
There is no need to rush life – life’s busy enough. It is happening regardless with us or without us.
Most importantly, we have to ensure that we acknowledge whatever it is we are feeling or is going on for us – that’s the taking of rest, sitting on the sidelines, allowing ourselves to be in tune with what is happening for us – and then brushing ourselves down, standing up, head held high and carrying on.
Too often we don’t take that time out to acknowledge to ourselves the reality of what is happening for, and inside us.
We can move on too quickly because our world is telling us too. We end up dragging ourselves ‘Onwards and Upwards’.
‘Act as If’
I know that we can choose to ‘ACT AS IF’ (Roberto Assagioli’s words in the psychosynthesis model) for a little while and this can help too. Doing this enables our body, feelings, mind and spirit to take on the mantle of whatever it is we want to show the world.
Replenish Ourselves
The most important thing though is that we take the time out ‘to be’ in whatever form is right for us, in order to replenish ourselves.
Feed our Soul
Just like a garden that needs fed, watered and taken care of, our Soul cries out for this too.
I trust that you love yourself enough that you are able to say ‘NO’ when life (whoever and whatever) is demanding of your time and energy. AND you also say ‘YES, I am listening’ when you hear those calls.
I really want to hear what your Motivational Phrase is so that it can be shared with us all.
I use onwards and upwards too Irene. Interestingly though now I come to think about it, it’s less of a motivating phrase for me but one I add to the end of a sentence after a discussion about a problem I’m having and is more about trying to convince the other person that I’m ok.
Tomorrow is Another Day is also one I use, but that’s a bit Scarlett O’Hara. 🙂
I use them all as well and for different reasons AND I loved the movie xx
Mine is Run Long, Run Strong. Used when I’m getting towards the end of a long run and it’s hurting!
Thanks, Sherry, it’s a great one – good on you for doing them – must tell my son your phrase as he does triathlons, duathlons….. Although I can imagine his response!! Love Irene
Mine is “smile and the world smiles with you” Irene. Everyone responds well to someone who smiles at them whatever the situation 🙂
It’s so true, Nicky, as I know this one well. xx
Que Sera Sera, with a Gallic shoulder shrug.
I love the Act as if! I have a lot of phrases- September’s mantra for nvlife magazine was “Be bold and fearless”….October’s will be “Go for Gold” because I think it’s important to reach as high as possible and aim for the stars!
Thanks, Judy, and I can just see you know doing that shrug so elegantly! xx
Well I can certainly see you ‘Going for Gold’, Nasi, no problem there xx
Mine is “This won’t get the baby a new bonnet” when I’ve sat too long “contemplating my navel” – for me it means get off your rear & do something
Pat, Thanks for your motivational phrase and totally agree with yours – lovely xx
