Where am I this week? I have been looking back at my recent blogs and I would say that they are primarily addressing our inner life – yours and mine – ourSelf.
I am now moving onto the area of happiness – whatever that means for you. For me, it means your attitude towards life, rather than the focus being solely on what you have or don’t have materially. In my opinion, your attitude towards life represents your main source of enjoyment or happiness. And this enjoyment comes from the inside.
All those material possessions can, and do make life better but you know inside that it isn’t these that are making you happy – YOU are. We hold that awareness lightly – the ability to allow all our feelings to be there. Those feelings inside us are the fireworks, the colours, the explosion, the vitality that give us our wealth.
That vitality is our Lust for Life.
I’ll repeat – Our ability to enjoy life is our wealth. I want you to breathe those words into the depths of your being and to do that whenever you are able to. Then you can truly hold them lightly.
In my book, “The Visible Woman”, I quote an article by Maeve Haran on “what makes you really happy?” At the top of the list (guess what?) – a good night’s sleep! She, and I, were struck at how many of them didn’t cost a penny. And remember nothing boosts your self-confidence more than being happy so you don’t have to spend anything at all.
Now I want you to ask yourself – Am I able to enjoy life regardless of what I do or don’t have? Am I able to enjoy and savour, for example, lovely food? Am I able to take the time to enjoy a child’s open laugh, watching the boats bobbing around in the water on a lovely day, or to simply sit and watch the world go by?
I do hope so, as these simple things are our happiness and as we enhance the quality of our own life so we do others.
