Living Life is being Creative in Itself
Life isn’t easy and how you respond to it is up to you – your choice!
Being by the Sea
Being by the coast is healing and hearing the sea gulls by the Thames estuary reminds me of when I grew up and holidayed on a small island (Millport, Isle of Cumbrae) on the River Clyde.
Being by the sea is about watching the world go by: the breathing in and the breathing out just like the ebb and flow of the tides. It’s also about seeing the yachts, cruise ships and container boats sailing by or stranded waiting for the tide. And here on the estuary, we have the mud flats which get covered up by the water with each tide. These can be both good fun for those wanting to wallow in the caked-in mud, and also dangerous when we don’t know the tides and how fast they can come in.
Metaphor for Life
I could use this as a metaphor for life: ebbing, flowing, being stuck and muddy where things can look horrible. Yet there is sustenance and growth underneath. Also for taking the responsibility for knowing what could happen and still being willing to take that risk. And the fact that unexpected happenings (good and bad) can stop us in our tracks and derail the journey we had planned.
Luck
I am lucky to be alive and still in love with life – sitting and eating under the ‘Arches Cafes’ at Westcliff, walking along by the sea, having a Rossi’s ice cream, being near to sea, country and also London. These are some of the reasons I love living in this Estuary area.
Another reason I am also lucky is, not only am I still doing the work I love – supervising other professionals, running groups and retreats for women who want more out of life – I am mixing with people of all ages and backgrounds at the fortnightly Leigh-on-Sea meetups.
Creativity
These meetings are about expressing our creativity in whatever shape or form we like. For me, I would say that I’ve being creative as a facilitator who hears the meaning behind others’ questions and weaves it all into a new vision for the groups I work with professionally as a psychologist and supervisor.
In my opinion, being creative is pouring your Soul into life. When you are giving your best, you are creative. When you allow yourself to be still and ‘be’, or see the funny aspects of life, you’re being creative. When you reach below the surface and bring something thoughtful forward, you are creative.
Creating from your Soul
When you are creating from your Soul, you are being artistic. Believe that your art is going to be useful to the world because you are always going to be useful as you are part of life.
Cancer
Cancer isn’t always a death sentence – I am proof of that. It doesn’t always win, as although it might invade our bodies, it is about us not allowing it to invade our mind. Cancer doesn’t define me. I hold that it has merely been a part of my life however traumatic that was. It obviously was not my time – as they say – and I have been l been living life since.
