“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished” (Lao Tzu)

I’ve been forced to rest due to some cold/flu like viral thing going around here in my area.  Also I’ve been driven up the wall as when I do have a little energy, and feel able to do something, I end up exhausted!!!    I’m tired, tired and tired at whatever time of the day it is.

Be Positive

I get told by friends of mine that I need to stay positive and see what the lessons are in this time of unwellness.     But, you see for me though, being positive doesn’t mean saying that things are fine when they are not.  They are not right now!!   And for me, being positive means being in touch with my emotions and expressing them appropriately (usually that means, ‘I am tired’ – surprise, surprise!!).

Life doesn’t always run smoothly and acceptance of this is at the very heart of positivity.

Pushing and Striving

Most of us, usually try to force a solution or get an answer by pushing and striving.  Perhaps we could simply own that, right now, we don’t know what it is all about.   And wait and see, and go with the reality of the situation as it is.  Sometimes the answer to ‘I wonder what this is all about?’ is in the not-knowing and then in days, months, and even years hence, the possibilities come – the penny drops.

Natural Seasons

If you saw yourself as a garden, some things take lots of hard work, pruning, watering, weeding

Spring Time
Blossom in the Spring Time

whilst others just grow regardless.  To stay healthy and thrive though hard work is required – you’ve put the basis in (preparation) and you remember to have the right tools e.g. gloves for the thorns and nettles.  There are also natural seasons for growth, death, rest and renewal before the new comes through again.

So while I can be grateful for the wonder of the little buds and shoots appearing now as we are slowly edging towards Spring, it is also about nature having had the Winter time to rest, sleep and recuperate.   Perhaps this is what I have needed to do too.

Control

I am remembering the words ‘this too will pass’ because then I can laugh at myself and laugh at life.  I am not in control!!   I can only do the best I can at any given moment.

I’m encouraging myself and you to choose to be happy – to see the craziness of life – as well as allowing yourself to be scared, angry, despondent or whatever.    We hold all the feelings and can choose to focus on whatever is upper most for us.  That is the control I and you have!

So as Seth Godwin said something like, “If we define anxiety as experiencing failure in advance, then changing it to anticipation, you will highlight the highs”.   I am letting go of my (health) anxiety and I am in anticipation of the future.

What about you?  What are you letting go of and anticipating instead?

  • I let go of stress last year Irene. When I did that, everything changed!

Anticipation? Just the fruition of projects that make me happy and make others happy around me. And enjoying all the good things around me, as they are right now.

I never wish time away now. It’s another day gone and one less day with loved ones. The moment we are in the most important one. 🙂

  • Great that you realised you were stressing yourself out AND wonderful to read your appreciation of all the good things around you, Sarah. Thanks for commenting xx

  • Life is what happens, it’s how we deal with what it throws our way that puts us in control. I’m sorry that you’ve not been well and yes you do have to rest – but while resting isn’t there a book you wanted to read?
Aren’t there some bits you wanted to google? Put your feet up & do it whilst resting. Life/sickness isn’t beating you – you are using it as the reason to entertain your brain and mind so that when you feel better you can bounce back all efficiency. Do it while under the weather & it goes wrong. Beat sickness by doing something else. xx

  • Hi Irene, I hope you’re feeling much better now. I had a very bad cold a little while ago and for me when these things happen, I acknowledge how I feel (pretty awful) and ask what does my body need to heal quickly?

As I live at home with just my son, who was out at school during the day I looked after myself and said all those nurturing things to myself that I would say to my child if he was sick.

    xx

  • Glad to know you’re feeling better, Irene.
Nature has a great way of telling us when we need to slow down. I’m glad I’m starting to listen to my body and rest more!
    Take care.
