I have decided to write more about the Therapy World in these blogs this time so know you will get something
out of them.
I have been asked many, many times over my long-standing years (30+) as a Psychologist, Supervisor and Coach in the Self-Development world, “What exactly do women come to therapy for?”
I can only focus on those that I’ve experienced so my answer is usually something like –
Anything and everything on the surface:-
Wanting to be happy and fulfilled
Differing issues in relationships (family, partners, work)
Stress
Ill-health
Depression
Overwhelm
Being different,
Feeling of going mad
Not fitting in
Fear of change or taking risks
Loss of some sort through death, divorce, children leaving home, losing their job, illness, retirement,
Mid-life crises
Life lacks a purpose
Searching for meaning
And anything else you might add!!
And underneath for most is PAIN, and the need for LOVE. The women are out of alignment with themselves. They are not listening to or not connected themselves – everyone else is ahead in the queue!!
For some, there is a nagging sense that life can be different in some way, and they are not quite sure what that feeling is all about.
So – take your pick of what I’ve written and maybe your issue is not one of them.
I’d love to hear from you what has, or might cause you to find someone who will listen to you perhaps for the very first time, either individually or in a group. I would value your comments.
What a lovely post Irene. fIt made me realize just how far I’ve come on my own journey. From standing in front of my mirror and thinking “I don’t know you and I don’t like you.” and yes, feeling so much that there was something more for me ~ To the person I am today who says “I love you” when I look in the mirror and I’m incredibly proud of the life I live. Thank you Irene x
Thanks for your comments – and Wendy isn’t it so satisfying to look back and see you can say ‘I love you’ to You – lovely xx
