We humans are social beings right from the time we are born, needing a connection with other human beings for a reason. We need the mirroring back of ourselves; that we are alive, that we matter and, as we move through life, simply to also have a laugh and gossip with friends, colleagues and even strangers.
This is meant to happen – to share each others’ ups and downs. It’s what makes life worthwhile. To be able to acknowledge one another’s life experience, to be able to be present to each other in that way – that’s what heals. Whoever, however and wherever it happens, it is literally, in that brief moment, a connection of the heart.
Life is so fragile and brief. It’s usually when we lose someone or become ill that we begin to realise that this is a fact.
So, I’m saying to you, enjoy your life. Make the most of it. Put that smile on your face. I’ve said before that, if you smile you actually generate feelings of happiness. Maybe you didn’t know that it even works when you use your fingers to pull up the corners of your mouth into a grin – go on, try it!
If you find you’ve a frown or a scowl on your face (maybe someone even tells you that), try putting that smile on your face and see if it doesn’t lift your mood even a wee bit. At the very least, you’ll have others smiling back at you which will make you feel better.
This then nourishes and nurtures you, you’ll feel less stressed or isolated and the rest of us can share and enjoy your smile with you – you’ve passed it on!!
Keep the connection going. x
